Montgomery Hall Theatre Visitor Code of Conduct

1. Introduction

Montgomery Hall Theatre is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable environment for all visitors, performers, staff and volunteers.

Our Visitor Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected from everyone attending events at the theatre. By entering the venue or purchasing a ticket, you agree to comply with this Code of Conduct.

Failure to comply may result in refusal of entry or removal from the venue without refund.

2. Our Commitment

We aim to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, regardless of age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.

We ask all visitors to help us create an environment where everyone feels welcome and respected.

3. Respect for Others

Visitors are expected to:

  • Treat fellow audience members, performers, staff, volunteers and contractors with courtesy and respect.

  • Behave in a manner that does not disturb or negatively affect the enjoyment of others.

  • Follow any reasonable instructions given by theatre staff.

  • Respect the theatre building, facilities and property.

4. Unacceptable Behaviour

The following behaviour will not be tolerated:

  • Abusive, threatening or aggressive behaviour.

  • Harassment, intimidation or discrimination of any kind.

  • Physical violence or threatening behaviour.

  • Bullying.

  • Offensive or discriminatory language.

  • Sexual harassment or inappropriate conduct.

  • Deliberately disrupting a performance.

  • Excessive noise during performances.

  • Intentionally damaging theatre property.

  • Entering restricted or backstage areas without permission.

  • Refusing to comply with instructions from theatre staff.

  • Any behaviour that compromises the safety or comfort of others.

Visitors engaging in unacceptable behaviour may be asked to leave the venue immediately.

5. Mobile Phones and Electronic Devices

To ensure all audience members enjoy the performance:

  • Mobile phones must be switched off or set to silent before the performance begins.

  • Calls should not be taken inside the auditorium.

  • Bright screens should be avoided during performances.

  • Smart watches and other devices should also be silenced where possible.

6. Photography and Recording

Unless otherwise stated by the promoter or performers:

  • Photography during performances is not permitted.

  • Video recording is prohibited.

  • Audio recording is prohibited.

  • Flash photography is strictly prohibited.

Some performances may allow photography before or after the show. Theatre staff will advise where appropriate.

Professional photography or filming for commercial purposes requires prior written permission from Montgomery Hall Theatre.

7. Late Arrival

To minimise disruption:

  • Please arrive in good time before the advertised start of the performance.

  • Latecomers may not be admitted immediately.

  • Admission after the performance has started is at the discretion of theatre staff and may only be permitted during a suitable break.

8. Food and Drink

Food and drinks purchased at the theatre may be consumed in designated areas.

Please dispose of litter responsibly.

Alcohol may only be consumed in accordance with licensing laws and theatre rules.

Visitors must not bring their own alcoholic beverages onto the premises unless expressly authorised.

9. Smoking and Vaping

Montgomery Hall Theatre operates a smoke-free environment.

Smoking and vaping are prohibited inside the building.

Visitors wishing to smoke or vape must do so only in designated outdoor areas where permitted and dispose of smoking materials responsibly.

10. Alcohol and Intoxication

Visitors who appear to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs may be refused entry or asked to leave the venue.

The theatre reserves the right to refuse the sale of alcohol at any time.

Illegal drugs are strictly prohibited on theatre premises.

11. Children

Children attending performances remain the responsibility of their parent, guardian or supervising adult unless participating in an organised activity.

Parents and guardians should ensure children behave appropriately and do not disturb other audience members.

Some performances may have age recommendations or restrictions. These should be observed when booking tickets.

12. Accessibility

Montgomery Hall Theatre is committed to making performances as accessible as possible.

Visitors requiring additional assistance are encouraged to contact the Box Office before their visit so that appropriate arrangements can be made where possible.

13. Security

For the safety of all visitors:

  • Theatre staff may inspect bags where considered necessary.

  • Prohibited or dangerous items may not be brought into the venue.

  • Visitors must follow all emergency procedures and staff instructions.

Anyone refusing reasonable security requests may be refused entry.

14. Damage to Property

Visitors are expected to respect theatre property and facilities.

Anyone who deliberately damages theatre property may be held responsible for repair or replacement costs and may be reported to the police where appropriate.

15. Animals

Only registered assistance dogs are permitted inside the theatre unless otherwise authorised.

Visitors requiring assistance dog access are encouraged to contact the Box Office in advance.

16. Refusal of Admission

Montgomery Hall Theatre reserves the right to refuse admission or require a visitor to leave the premises where:

  • This Code of Conduct has been breached.

  • A visitor's behaviour presents a risk to others.

  • A visitor is intoxicated.

  • A visitor behaves in an abusive, threatening or disruptive manner.

  • A visitor refuses to comply with reasonable instructions from theatre staff.

  • Admission would otherwise compromise the safety, security or enjoyment of others.

In such circumstances, refunds will not normally be provided.

17. Emergencies

In the event of an emergency, visitors must:

  • Follow instructions given by theatre staff.

  • Leave the building promptly when directed.

  • Not re-enter the building until authorised to do so.
